Newsletter #007

Hi, everyone.

sketch

Lovely to be back with you all. This past week was somewhat slow. The illustrations for "7531" keep on evolving and really showing themselves to me somehow. It feels pretty cool to have the pieces talk back at ya'. And even if these are going to be digital, they still have something interesting to them.

I enjoy this process. Considering I don't really have a "style" when it comes to digital illustration, it becomes a very fluent process, trying to really find that voice. For now I can share this line drawing. Just a work-in-progress, but still so loud in its quietness...

volume 2

This was not the only thing going on. There's another project that's slowly moving forward too. I'm talking about "Ookami and the Blue Gem", the second volume of the webcomic/graphic novel. It is still very early in production to really give an ETA on its release, but you will be kept in the loop so, do not fret.

Just like the first volume, the chapters will be released slowly on the website, for free. Once all 6 chapters are out, the preparations for the release of the graphic-novel version will begin. The cover art and name of the volume are very much placeholders at this moment, but the path is set, story-wise.

There is much fun to be had in the process of creation of this project. Still, time is only so much, and many other projects are still in the making. Soon I'll share more details about it. In the meantime, if you haven't yet, go and enjoy the first volume here! And maybe consider purchasing the Hardcover Graphic Novel version of it.

On another note, I don't have many details yet, but I will be participating in the next National Book Fair in Santo Domingo, presenting to the world and signing the new edition of "Gaia 0". I'm super excited about that, but that's all I have for you on that subject for now. As I receive more information on it, I'll share it with y'all, my dearest #MadnessLovers.

Get your copy here and bring it to the fair to have it signed!

And now...

The Shared Madness

Once again, we take a look at what's happening around in the artistic/cultural scene of the Dominican Republic and its diaspora. And I mention the diaspora because today we're going to see a few things that our beautiful people are making outside the island borders. That being said, this week's Highlight will be a local wonder.

Enjoy!

Highlight

Tomás Pichardo Espaillat

Dominican Artist living in Santo Domingo

Illustrator, animator, writer, director... this guy gets it! His work shines for it's uniqueness and his style is surely something to behold. The way he chooses to use images to convey messages is quite interesting.

His school for animation was the world and the experience that came with it. Animating

locarno film festival

videos for Ted-Ed with a really absorbent mindset gave him what he needed in terms of practice. The rest came from his creative side. Having released his first feature animation film called "Olivia y las Nubes" about 10 months ago, he saw a path that needed walking. And so he did.

Today his work continues to be praised for its ingenious ways. So much so that an exposition is being held from August 22nd to October 10th, based on the film. This is happening at the Museum of Modern Art in Santo Domingo. This will include animation workshops, talks, performances, and much more. The film was also recognized at the prestigious Locarno Film Festival, in Switzerland, furthermore cementing his achievements with this great visual piece.

Another proof that when Dominican talent reaches the world, they can only sit back and observe in awe.

Take the time to visit his website and check out his intriguing portfolio. Enjoy the mastery as much as I did.

You can also show him some love on Instagram @tomaspichardoespaillat.

That is all for today's newsletter. Have a wonderful week, remember to join theFamily if you haven't yet and, to continue growing the community, we also have The Madness Broadcasted on Instagram. Never forget to embrace #theMadness in you!
